Imagine strolling beneath a 1,200-year-old ginkgo as golden leaves carpet the ground. The Shanghai Millennium Ancient Ginkgo Garden in Jiading district has reopened after more than a year of renovation, letting visitors enjoy the autumn spectacle once again.
The park is built around Shanghai's oldest ginkgo, registered as No 0001. Its refreshed landscape features elegant Chinese-style architecture, including a waterside pavilion, a viewing terrace and a moon-viewing pavilion, creating new spots to explore and photograph.
The park's design draws inspiration from traditional Chinese landscape painting, blending gardens, water and architecture into a setting for leisurely walks. Visitors can wander around the ancient tree and through the surrounding ginkgo grove, enjoying a mix of natural scenery and traditional garden design.
The renovation has also enhanced the tree's protection, expanding its protected area by about 40 percent to more than 1,300 square meters. A smart monitoring system tracks environmental conditions and soil improvements help support the tree's long-term health.
The best time to see the ginkgo's foliage turn golden is usually from late November to early December, when fallen leaves create a striking autumn scene.
Admission is free. The park is at No 230 Taihai Road, Guangming village, Anting town, Jiading district.
