22 middle school students from Melbourne, Australia, recently came to Huangdu Middle School in Shanghai’s Jiading district to experience traditional Chinese culture.

The school picked 22 Chinese students to be their desk mates, and prepared special courses, such as calligraphy and bamboo-carving, for them.

In the calligraphy class, while playing videos, the teacher taught the students in fluent English how to write with brushes, as the Chinese desk mates looked on. The director of Huangdu School said that the communication activity let the Australian students better understand Chinese culture and also helped the Chinese students to practice speaking English.
