Jiading applies advanced agriculture technologies

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2014-06-18

During the third month of summer, Jiading introduced a series of newly advanced agriculture technologies into the farmlands which could largely improve agricultural production.

In the breeding center of Huating town, a technician demonstrates how to add nutrition to the soil base. With a new technical “matrix seedling”, one farmer could raise quality seedlings in 20 days with a simple operational system.

“Renewable plant resources such as straw, after multiple biochemical treatments to the synthetic substrates, can provide much richer nutrients for the seedlings than from soil nutrients,” a technician explained to a reporter.

“It is much easier to learn operational steps, I just take control of key processes which takes less than an hour,” said Chen Zhong, a farmer from Huating town.

The “matrix seedling” technology does not depend on traditional factors such as the climatic changes and normal problems raising seedlings. In Jiading Industrial Zone, Xuhang and Anting town, 30 rice direct seeders were introduced to the new methods. Those seeders worked in full accordance with the given application orders and could plant rice seedlings without manual labor.

An officer from Jiading government told the reporter “Compared with commonly used transplanters, the accuracy of seed sowing is very high with the rice direct seeder, and all the seedlings were in alignment and displayed good permeability. In addition, the work efficiency of the new machine is equally high, and it can sow 5.33 hectares a day, but a skilled farmer could only do half that amount of workload.

Another agricultural technology process applied to Jiading farming is a water management system, which can control the moisture of the soil and contribute to the seedling growth cycle. It keeps the seedlings in a suitable environment and makes up for the deficiency of simple nutritional supplements. This new system leaves the paddy field "breathing deeply" and ensuring that there is enough oxygen in the soil, which can meet the needs of the root system of the rice and also help the straw fully decompose.
