Elderly, kids get better care

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2015-04-27

Senior citizens and children with registered permanent residency in Jiading district are now covered by government-funded life and diseases insurance.

The district government spent 3.72 million yuan ($600,000) this year to cover about 165,000 residents over 60 and 54,000 children under 14.

The insured who died of or were disabled in natural disasters, falling objects or accidents in public space can receive a maximum insurance of 100,000 yuan. Patients who suffer cancer or hemophilia can get an annual maximum subsidy of 1,000 yuan. Children who suffer congenital heart disease will be compensated 1,000 yuan.

The insurance also covers family properties of residents with registered permanent residency in Jiading and outside people who hold Jiading residence permits. Every eligible household can get a maximum of 8,000 yuan if their houses are damaged in thunderstorms, typhoons or other disasters.

Home-visit service is available for lonely elderly people, physically impaired residents and ailing housebound people, who can call 021-6608-5802 or 1365-1818-905 to make appointments with volunteers to help deal with the insurance businesses.
