The first Formula Student Electric China (FSEC) electric car event, featuring a race, was held at the Shanghai International Circuit in Jiading district, Nov 2-7, with a participation of 28 university teams.
According to the organizers, the teams consisted of students majoring in automobile engineering, who designed their own electric racecars. The Lushan College of Guangxi University of Science and Technology beat all contenders and won the race.
Differing from a regular Formula One event, the FSEC competition considered items such as vehicle examinations, oral defenses of engineering design, and cost assessments in addition to the car race.
The FSEC, sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers of China and the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, is an auto racing event for university students which requires outstanding technological and practical abilities. It is seen as a cradle for top racing drivers and auto engineers.
