A total of 98 teams comprising nearly 500 runners took part in a city orienteering challenge in Nanxiang Ancient Town, Jiading district of Shanghai on Oct 8.
There were two routes, one of 15 kilometers and the other of 9, both starting from Nanxiang Taimall Commercial square.
The control points along the routes, all landmarks of the town, included Hengli cultural and ecological landscape, a 24-hour library Home Study facility, the cultural and sports center Xiang Cube, a community sports field, a community cultural center, and Boai Square.
Arriving at the control points, the participants were required to finish certain tasks such as a quiz, a guessing game, games of carrying and delivering things, and looking for cards.
After fierce competition, the top three teams of each route were named. Many participants expressed their enthusiasm for these kinds of outdoor sports.
The event, held for the first time in Nanxiang, is expected to promote a healthy lifestyle among its residents and give all participants an opportunity to enjoy the beauty and charm of this ancient town.
