Education bureaus from Shanghai's Jiading and Huangpu districts have agreed to co-run Luwan No 1 Experimental Primary School, located in Jiading's Jiangqiao town.
The agreement, signed on Nov 30, will see the school take advantage of the quality teaching resources of Huangpu's high-performing Luwan No 1 Primary School to further education development. This will include training teachers, designing curriculum and focusing on pedagogy.
Luwan No 1 Primary School is a century-old school that boasts a talented group of teachers. Its "Cloud Class" project, which integrates information technology into the classroom, is one of the leading initiatives of its kind in China and has gained nationwide publicity.
Li Yuan, deputy head of Huangpu, said the cooperation will benefit both sides and hopes the experimental primary school will develop into one of the top institutions in Shanghai.
Wang Hao, deputy head of Jiading, said the deal is a significant move for the district to optimize education resources. He also hopes that this will help improve Jiading’s regional education.
Luwan No 1 Experimental Primary School, previous known as Jiataolu Primary School, began classes last September. Situated on 41 mu (2.73 hectares) of land, it is designed to hold 35 classes. It currently has 12 classes and 455 students.
