An exhibition themed around national automobiles in the past seven decades is underway at the Shanghai Auto Museum in Jiading district of Shanghai in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The "China on Wheels" exhibition is organized by Shanghai Auto Museum, which has teamed up with many domestic cultural and art institutions, as well as private collectors for it.
About 20 classic Chinese cars and more than 300 old items related to daily life are being displayed to show visitors the remarkable course of China's automobile industry's development in the past 70 years, as it has transformed its production process from complete dependence on imports to domestic production. It also shows the changes of people's lifestyles and values.
Rare models such as the 1959 Hongqi CA72 and Shanghai SH760A are on exhibition.
The 1959 Hongqi CA72 luxury car was specially manufactured for the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The Shanghai SH760A by Shanghai Auto Works, now known as Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, was the only mass production of ordinary official vehicles before the 1980s, which carries the memories of older generations of Shanghai residents.
The exhibition will run until Jan 6, 2020.
