An exhibition which has thousands of items recording inspirational events in the history of the Chinese packaging industry has opened at 151 Jiayi Rd, Jiangqiao town, Jiading.
Packaging, which has been a part of Chinese culture for over 1,000 years, is seen as a mirror reflecting the social and economic development of the time.
The first part of the show features exhibits from 1912 to 1949, a period when China's social, economic and cultural development was weak, and hence the quality and coloring of the packaging were relatively poor.
From 1949 to 1979, the economy was lifted with the founding of the People's Republic of China, and so designs, raw materials and packaging processing techniques improved.
The industry has been blooming since 1979, when the country put forward the strategy of reform and opening-up. Intelligent and digital momentums have fueled the industry with more practical and colorful products in recent years.
The free exhibition will last for six months and all the exhibits are from the private collection of Du Weixin, a former deputy secretary of the Shanghai Printing Technology Association.
