The second edition of Yuanxiang Lake Culture Festival kicked off at Shanghai Poly Grand Theatre on Nov 22. The festival doubles as Shanghai's largest outdoor waterscape performance, complete with a stunning light display.
The light show started at 7 pm at Yuanxiang Lake, which covers an area of about 60 hectares. The festival consisted of three parts.
The Jiading culture served as the backdrop for the first part. It displays an audio-visual drama that is exclusive to Jiading through the artistic processing of regional culture along with a variety of technological outcomes including fountains, lights, and water installations.

The second part presented an immersive large-scale live water performance. Special effects were injected into the musical performances, plays and dances to display Jiading's legendary culture.
The festive atmosphere peaked as the last part unfolded with a combination of electronic music and surreal water curtain images creating a vivid audio-visual display. "It feels like every cell in my body has been set free, and it is so stress-relieving," said a young viewer who wished to remain anonymous.
