The 2023 "Jiading-Kunshan-Taicang" Fine Grape Tasting and Evaluation Event recently took place in Shanghai's Jiading district, with 36 grape production cooperatives and companies showcasing their best products.
During the event, representatives from Jiading district, Kunshan city, and Taicang city – all of which are located in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) - discussed the future development of the grape industry. They agreed that strengthening agricultural technology and management exchange will be vital to creating agricultural brands in the YRD.
There were 61 grape samples, including both familiar and new varieties, available for tasting during the event. Experts from various agricultural institutions evaluated the grapes based on appearance, taste, texture, aroma, and sugar content.
The "Sunshine Rose" variety stood out among its competitors due to its sweet aroma. A senior agricultural technician praised its firm, crispy texture and strong rose fragrance.
Ten grape samples, including "Jufeng," "Nina Queen," and "Jusheng", received gold medals. "Sunshine Rose" and "Nina Queen" were named the "Most Beloved Grape Varieties."
Jiading district currently has a grape planting area of 8,547 mu (569.8 hectares) with a total output value of 203 million yuan ($28.27 million). The district has been focused on promoting the "Malu Grape," which has received recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture and won numerous awards in recent years.
