In an effort to promote traditional Chinese culture and enrich the cultural lives of local residents, the Traditional Culture Fair was held at the Han Tianheng Art Museum in Shanghai's Jiading district on Aug 26.
Enthusiasts of Hanfu, the traditional clothing of the Han ethnic group, attended the event in full costume. The museum was filled with exhibits showcasing different periods of Chinese history, including the Tang (618-907), Song (960-1279), and Ming (1368-1644) dynasties.
Calligraphers showcased their skills, while antique signs gently swayed in front of various exhibition areas dedicated to Danqing (Chinese ink painting), sealing, seal carving, and other traditional art forms.
Seal carvers Yang Zubai and Shen Wei demonstrated the seal engraving process, from the initial drawing to the completion of the seal. Tao Yihui, a junior high school student studying seal carving, sought advice from Yang to overcome a creative block. Tao praised the guidance she received, which emphasized the importance of copying ancient seals to understand and appreciate cultural heritage.
Visitors also experienced the art of printing on fans. The organizers specially designed stamps inspired by Han Tianheng's paintings, combining traditional patterns to simulate color blending in traditional paintings.
The event also featured performances by pipa and guzheng players, tea artists, and an expert in traditional gourmet Jinyun baked cakes.
Zhu Yunxian from the Han Tianheng Art Museum expressed his commitment to bringing high-quality cultural services to the public. Han Huizhi, the museum's artistic director, announced that similar activities would be organized in the future as part of the museum's 10th anniversary celebrations.
