The In-Shanghai Art Fest, part of the 22nd China Shanghai International Arts Festival, kicked off its special performance titled "When Western Classical Meets Chinese Folk Music" in Jiading district, Shanghai on Oct 22.
The event took place at the City Life Plaza in Jiading's Anting town, where a delightful fusion of traditional eastern and western classical music captivated the audience.
Skilled musicians played a variety of Chinese and western classical instruments, blending the melodies harmoniously. The performance showcased popular Western classics, well-known adaptations and local folk songs.
Zhang, who attended the concert with her child, was amazed at the integration of folk and Western music. She expressed her desire for her child to explore more ethnic music to expand her musical horizons.
Li Weijie, the performance leader and a young pianist, as well as an associate professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, explained that choosing to perform in the atrium of the business district was a deliberate choice to bring music to the public and allow more people to experience different genres.
Upcoming festival events include the African Mauritian music rhythm "African Voice KOOL KREOL" and "Live in LIFE" Alec Carnival Band jazz performances at the City Life Plaza.
