Jiading district in Shanghai, which houses 1,254 enterprises engaged in biomedical production, R&D, and service, has set its sights on accelerating the construction of its biomedical industry cluster.
This year, the district particularly emphasizes developing high-performance medical equipment and precision medicine. It plans to accelerate the construction of key projects and attract at least 250 new biomedical enterprises, aiming to generate a total output of 38.5 billion yuan ($5.35 million) in the biomedical industry.
Central to this effort is establishing United Imaging Town. This flagship project includes the construction of United Imaging Innovation Home, Chain Group Industrial Community, Innovative Talent Community, and United Imaging Future Industry Development Zone. This integrated development model aims to create a world-class, high-end medical equipment industry cluster with an estimated output value of over 100 billion yuan.
The United Imaging project is poised to serve as a leading research hub for innovative medical technology and play a pivotal role in accelerating the layout of biopharmaceutical-related enterprises. Over 200 medical companies have already established a presence in the area.
The district also focuses on strengthening independent innovation and fostering the deep integration of industry and medicine. Shanghai Ruijin Hospital's Innovation Center and Orthopedic Research Institute have been relocated to Shanghai MadValley Industrial Park in Jiading, marking a significant step toward the convergence of medical research and industrial development. This move is expected to relocate several medical device companies to the area, further enhancing the region's position as a hub for advanced medical technology.
In line with these developments, Jiading district is set to deepen the construction of the Shanghai MadValley Industrial and Medical Integration Innovation Industrial Base, leveraging the core advantages of the Ruijin Innovation Center. The district aims to achieve 10 breakthrough and cutting-edge projects and introduce 20 advantageous projects with high growth and a strong driving force this year.
